Your battery storage should be large enough to power your home during periods of low sunlight. As a general rule, most homes require at least 1-3 days’ worth of energy storage, which can range from 10 kWh to 30 kWh or more, depending on your energy consumption. Investing into a well sized solar array and reliable backup generator will reduce the amount you need to spend on the battery bank. Yes, many off-grid solar systems are designed to be scalable. You can add more solar panels or battery storage over time as your energy needs increase. Ensure your initial system design allows for easy expansion, including sufficient inverter capacity.

While not mandatory, a backup generator is recommended for off-grid homes to provide power during extended cloudy periods, equipment failure, or heavy energy usage. It acts as an additional safety net to ensure you always have electricity.

OFFGRID NOW® systems require minimal maintenance. As a general rule, maintenance can be triggered by looking at the System App and acting on any irregularities in performance:
- If solar production is down check your panels are not dirty or shaded which can occurs from the lower winter sun and growing trees. In general a hose down with soft broom every few years is a good idea to keep panels clean.
- Check your generator is ready to start if called upon (check starter battery, fuel and oil levels).
- Batteries may require a power cycle (reset) in the event of an alarm condition, however other than that do not require maintenance.
- Check the filter on the underside of the cabinet and clean if dirty. Also check cabinet lid seal is intact and inside of cabinet is clean.
